The hotel Ca' Vendramin is found in a great
location in Venice, it looks on to the quiet Rio di Santa Fosca, in the
center of the Cannaregio neighbour hood which is not a touristy area.
The
well known Strada Nova, is only 30 mt form the hotel which is famous for
all the shops and it is a main street is Venice. This particular section
of Venice is very up beat, full of local people, shops and "Bacari" (typical
Venetian restaurants), and nearby you will find the lively fruit and

The Rialto Bridge is only a 15 minute walk away from
this area, where you will find all the original shops and historical
goldsmiths of Venice. When you cross over the Rialto you will find
another popular shopping area known as the Mercerie. Here you will find
the main street and the side street filled with characteristic shops and
stylish boutiques. From here continue on and you will find yourself in
the world famous St. Mark's Square. Important points of interests as the
Basilica of St. Mark, with its instantly recognizable, almost Oriental
profile. This church is decorated with Byzantine mosaics and is filled
with priceless artistic treasures. The church measures 8,000 sq. meters.
The bell-tower, has a sixteenth-century Sansovino loggia; the Palazzo
Ducale which is an impressive example of Gothic architecture. Inside you
will expect to find huge rooms and enormous paintings by the most famous
artists from Veneto. It is also here that The Procuratie, buildings
under the portico that enclose the square, and the famous Correr Museum
area found.
Hotel Ca' Vendramin di Santa Fosca is near public transport. The
"Ca' D'Oro" vaporetto line 1 stop goes down the Grand Canal. This main
waterway of the city, is only 3 minutes from the hotel, and there is
also the option of private water taxi that comes directly to the hotels
private boat ramp.
Right in the immediate surroundings of the hotel is the less trafficked
area of Venice that many tourists do not learn about. Here you can
discover shops and local stores that the local people frequent and the
Vendramin Calergi, is where you will find the Venice Casino and all of
its fantastic Renaissance architecture. This was originally the musician
Richard Wagne's home, who died there in 1883. The rooms where the
musician lived have been transformed into a wonderful museum, which is
very interesting for music lovers. The Ca' D'Oro, is a fantastic
fifteenth-century noble residence. Now it has been changed into the
Galleria Franchetti, which is full of a valuable painting collection.
Here you will find the famous "St. Sebastian" by Mantegna, and others by
sixteenth-century Veneto and Flanders. The incredible eighteenth-century
Palazzo Labia is home to magnificent frescos by Tiepolo.
The Ghetto of Venice is known as the oldest ghetto in the world. It was
constructed by the Republic of Venice in 1516 and went on to be closed
by Napoleon in 1797. You will find the Ghetto in Campo del Ghetto Novo,
and here is also a Hebrew Museum and the ancient Schole, the five
synagogues in the Ghetto.
HOW TO GET HERE
By plane
There are several different ways to get From Venice International Marco
Polo Airport, to Hotel Ca' Vendramin di Santa Fosca. The following is
the easiest way.
- Water taxi from airport: the taxi drops you off in Rio di Santa Fosca,
in front of the hotel.
- Bus and water taxi: take the "ATVO" shuttle or the no. 5 bus for
Venezia – Piazzale Roma.
From here take a water taxi that will drop you off in front of the
hotel.
- Bus and vaporetto:
take the "ATVO" shuttle or the no. 5 bus for Venezia – Piazzale Roma.
From here take vaporetto line 1 for Rialto and get off at the "Ca'D'Oro"
stop". Walk to Calle del Traghetto and then turn left onto Strada Nova.
Go over two bridges and turn onto the next small street on the right.
Cross the church square and then the bridge. You have are here. Hotel
Ca' Vendramin is in front of you.
- "Alilaguna" public line
By train
Take the ACTV vaporetto, line 1 for Rialto from the stop right in front
of the train station. Get off at the "Ca' D'Oro" stop. Walk to Calle del
Traghetto and turn left onto Strada Nova. Cross the two bridges and turn
onto the next narrow street on the right. Cross the church square and
then the bridge. You are here. Hotel Ca' Vendramin is right in front of
you.
By car
You can not reach the historic center of Venice by car. There is a car
park in Piazzale Roma and in Tronchetto or near Mestre, the area around
the railway station.
From the exit of the A4 and A27 highways follow the signs for Venezia (for
the Piazzale Roma and Tronchetto car parks) or drive along the
"tangenziale" for Mestre and follow the signs for the Centro/Stazione (for
parking near Mestre station). When you park your car you can get to
Piazzale Roma by bus or to Venice train station by train. Take the
vaporetto line 1 for Rialto, (if you leave your car in Tronchetto, take
vaporetto 82 for Piazzale Roma where you change) and get off at the Ca'
D'Oro stop. Walk to Calle del Traghetto and turn left onto Strada Nova.
Go accross the two bridges and turn onto the next small street on the
right. Cross the church square and then the bridge. You have arrived.
